Located 40km (25mi) east of Calgary
on the Trans
Canada Highway, Strathmore is a booming bedroom community that offers easy
access to the big city while still retaining a small-town feel. Originally founded
as a supply stop for the Canadian Pacific Rail, Strathmore has seen a significant
increase in the agricultural and oil industries during the past few decades. There
are a number of things for visitors to Strathmore to do: check out a hockey game
at the Strathmore
Family Centre, go for a swim at the aquatic
centre, play a round at one of the golf courses or check out the scenery at
one of the many parks.
For an experience not often found in Alberta, visit the Fieldstone
Winery, located just 10km (6.5mi) out of the town limits. During the August
long weekend, the town of Strathmore celebrates in the western-themed Strathmore
Heritage Days and Stampede, which features rodeos, entertainment and a midway.
